I have a DeWalt red laser 3-line level, works great indoors but outdoors in bright sun even 30 feet is tough to see. Green laser verion will probably make it to 50' in same conditions. Red laser was close to $400 new, green is more expensive and these are the low end for such devices in doing outdoor projects. These are not cheap tools unless you go with some knock-off Chinese thing on Amazon. Typical line lasers use a prism and conical element to form a laser line, compact and reliable but at the expense of range because the emitted laser beam is cast into a line. Rotary lasers are spinning a beam, far more range and much better accuracy at any range but they are even more expensive. Shop around, see if you can rent or borrow, but $150 isn't going to get you anything more suitable than flooring and tiling layout and picture hanging.
