If the Iraqi government does not meet its obligations of protecting the American embassy, then the United States should take action against them and make it on a level consistent with what Iran gets now. Just a question of whether it's kinetic, cyber or sanctions.
Willfully refusing to defend a foreign nation's embassy when they're under siege is essentially an act of terrorism if not an outright act of war.
I don't care who you are or what the current situation is, that is a diplomatic red line that cannot be crossed and must be punished if its crossed.
