Y’all really need to read the entirety of this article (2 minute read). It defines why Trump is COMPLETELY different than any president we’ve had. The guy gets it.

Trump reportedly compared the opinions of senior military officers to those of a restaurant consultant. Rather than taking the advice of the consultant, who would suggest expanding a kitchen for renovations, Trump argued it would be more prudent and cost effective to ask the advice of the waiters who see the day to day operations and can identify the most basic problems in a restaurant’s functions.
One of the first groups Trump reportedly met with were enlisted Navy SEALs who criticized the war and said the war in Afghanistan is “unwinnable.”
“NATO’s a joke. Nobody knows what they’re doing,” the SEALs reportedly told Trump. “We don’t fight to win. The morale is terrible. It’s totally corrupt.”
—————————
“... I want to hear it from the people on the ground,” Trump said
——————————
Following that meeting, Trump reportedly gathered senior military officials to the White House situation room, where he then warned that the enlisted members he spoke with know “a lot more than you generals,” and said that “we’re losing” the war in Afghanistan

Afghanistan is unwinnable short of nuking the entire place into glass. Period.
There is no victory to be had in Afghanistan as it's a shithole full of people that love living in the 5th century stone ages and they will and have fought like hell to keep it that way.
Many great empires before us have tried to tame Afghanistan and have failed spectacularly and the United States of America is no different.
Time to cut our losses and get out of that shithole.

Trump said that the enlisted men know more than the generals.
Should he have made them switch places? Seems like we want the best and smartest at the top.

They certainly do have a clearer view of the battlefield and a better grasp of what is going on, but of course the answer is not to switch them. The answer is to train the officers to listen to them more often. I think this is more of a case of Trump leading by example.

One of these days, you'll make a salient point. Today is not that day.

You'd get a lot of American Generals killed that way.

The thing to do was to never have been there to start with. That's how you win in Afghanistan. We should have turned the place to glass right after 9-11 and been done with it.

Yeah yeah, but you know what man? There are some games where the only way to win is to not play.

Trying to change the subject, warmonger?
Go wash your bloody hands.

Had we nuked Afghanistan right after 9-11,the poppy fields, camps and Tora Bora, and any other targets we deemed necessary, and combined that world wide with assassinations of anyone associated with what happened, the world would be a much better place today.
For certain, there would be a lot of good Americans alive and well now that are not. Our enemies would fear and respect us, and we would not be bogged down in an endless unwinnable war, because we would have won it already.

quote:Dude WTF. Are you saying we should stay at war to be ready for the next war? Not only is that immoral and just stupid foreign policy it just doesn’t make any sense militarily. These deployments have done nothing to prepare us for the next war. If anything they’ve hurt us. Doing counterinsurgency will not prepare our troops for shite. It’s been proven time and again throughout history that good training and equipment are what win wars. Not combat experience. If that were the case Iraq would’ve kicked our arse in the first gulf war. Germany and Japan would’ve wiped the floor with us. I could keep going but you get the point. You’re reaching here and I don’t even think you believe what you’re saying.

Tell that to the families of the dead. Tell that to the maimed. You're sick. Afghanistan kills morale, moron.
That place isn't worth ONE American life. We should have taken THEIR lives and maimed THEM. THAT'S how you win wars.

These deployments have readiness value, the loss compared to when deploy an unprepared force is a small fraction.
Uh Huh...I bet you were selling up the WMD risk in Iraq to sell the invasion.
Warmonger gonna warmong.
