The plot is a mess, pacing is a disaster, and the film seems to disregard previous character development and plots begun in the previous movie. In addition, it greatly diminishes the cohesion and story of the original films.

All of this.

And that's before we even get into some of the all-time stupid moments like the opening prank call, the WWII bombing run in space, Leia in space, Laura Dern sacrificing herself to hyperdrive as if there wasn't a damn autopilot or droid capable, and some sort of weird salt planet trench warfare against Death Star tech.

I feel like those scenes are the result of this movie being written backwards. Most stories are written first with the directors then coming up with visual effects that complement that story. This movie seemed like they started with cool ideas for visuals (Leia Poppins, hyperspace through Snoke’s ship, red guard fight, the salt planet battle, etc) and then tried to write the movie’s plot to connect the visuals. It resulted in a movie that frankly, doesn’t make much sense, with visuals that look cool while undermining the plot.

For example, the whole fight on the salt planet looked cool, but was absolutely pointless. Their weapons were so completely useless that they were defeated easily. They were better off not even trying, but it looked cool.
