King and JBE killed the Jimbo hire (which ultimately seems to have worked out well for us) because the state was in a budget crisis. The athletic department is self funded and totally separate from the university's funds.
That and his holistic admissions policies pissed a lot of alumni off. He also trashed the state and university every chance he got. Good riddance.

You're only half right here. Miles was given a second chance because he campaigned for Jindal. Alexander, a Jindal appointee, was asked by Jindal to give Miles another chance.
Think of it as one last "frick you!" from Bobby Jindal.
