I purchased a Traeger 4-5 months ago and have been having problems out of it for the last couple weeks. Contacted Traeger Customer Service about the issues and got little to no help, so I contacted my dealer where I purchased the grill at. We looked at it together and he said the hell with it. He gave me store credit so I'm coming to the dark side and getting a BGE. Need some advice and recommendations for "must have" accessories and recipes to try. TIA!

1) Digital dual meat probe

2) Dust pan with the lip if you plan to put in in a table.

3) Indirect ceramic stone for smoking

4) Rib rack

5) Electric coal lighter

Thank ya!

The "package" I got was the Large and included the nest with casters and a convEGGtor. I purchased the lump coal basket for the bottom as well as a cast iron grate. Looking forward to cooking on it! Looking for any and all suggestions!

NOPE!

just go to Home depot and get a MAPP Gas torch.

if you like smoking meats look into getting a BBQ Guru or Flameboss or if you are into DIY look in to HeaterMeater.

While a ceramic can hold constant temps if you learn to use your dampeners, i have found that the temp spikes when you have wood chunks in there without using an automated fan. Plus it is great to be able to see a graph of your temp and meat temp, or when you know you need to speed it up, you can bump the temp up via your phone.

I saw that BGE has something similar called the "Egg Genius." Care to explain how this works? Is this just a fan that regulates the temperature? I'm definitely interested in something like this.

yea there is a thermocouple or probe you put in the pit, then the controller turns a fan on and off to keep a constant temp. when i built my heatermeater the commercial versions were around 500 bucks. it cost me 100 bucks plus the raspberry pie, but the commercial versions have gotten cheaper since then.

This is definitely something I will have to invest in. One thing I will miss about the Traeger was the ease of smoking brisket/pulled pork. This device seems to make it just as easy.

You don't have to have the Conveggtor or whatever it is called if you get one of the combos from Ceramic Grill Store. I'd head there and watch some of their videos. Ceramic Grill Store

I'll be sure to do that! The package I purchased came with one included so I'll have one anyway. Thanks for the advice!

+1 on the Ceramic Grill Store folks...they sell lots of nifty, high quality stuff for BGEs.

I'm a big fan of the Kick-Ash Basket, with a divider. It's a wire frame basket that sits inside the firebox, and you can put in the divider to use half as much charcoal & create a cool zone/indirect cooking spot away from the coals.

I often do short, direct cooks & close off the cooker, leaving me with a 1/4 or 1/2 burned load of lump. With the Kick Ash basket, you just grab the handles, lift out the load of lump, and then take it over to (trash can, flowerbed, compost heap) and give it a few shakes to get rid of the ash. While it's out, you can quickly and easily sweep out the ash from inside the Egg.

It's stainless steel. Buy once, cry once.
My OME enameled steel BGE grate finally bit the dust, and I replaced it with a stainless steel one from the Ceramic Grill store.

The platesetter is the only thing I bought for my XL egg and have had it for 5 years and been able to cook anything I needed. If you have Facebook you should join Big Green Egg BBQers

When your felt gasket burns off don’t worry about replacing it. I have two large green eggs, one is about ten and one is about five. Neither have a gasket anymore and cook just as good as always. I replaced them once, burned them off and just never replaced again.

I have the deflector and the pizza stone. That’s pretty much it.

Meathead just posted a circular one made by bbqguru on his twitter. Holds 5 racks at a time on a circular shaped kamado.

I received one as a gift a few years ago. Not a big fan of the smoking fad. Most meats taste the same. The only thing I like doing on the egg is smoked deviled eggs. Besides that I don’t recommend it. Beef and fish much better grilled. Poultry much better oven baked.
