We live in the most heavily incarcerated nation on earth, how is that not oppression? Our police rob from from us via CAF. Law enforcement that has an economic incentive for the police to lock up as many as hey can. Mass surveillance of American citizens by the NSA. The war on drugs to protect us from ourselves so that we don’t commit victimless crimes (but manages to keep the police state well funded).
The US is very much an oppressive state as well, we just don’t fight it like the HK protestors are doing.

Sorry I don’t think being the most incarnated nation on the planet is a good thing, nor do I want the police taking my stuff or spying on me 24/7...
