I’d like to give my 2 cents about the guy as a coach. Yes, I know that no one cares about what I think:

His process philosophy is fantastic for practices because it’s so simple. It is beneficial to create mentally strong players.

The difficult part of instituting it is that it takes laser focus from a coach. It’s hard not to get fired up if you have success and not fall into the trap of Focusing on winning the game while glossing over individual mistakes on single plays. People think you are crazy and miserable if you do so.

I believe it wears thin after a while once a player has a lot of experience in a professional setting as well. The coach needs near absolute power for it to be the most successful.

I love the guy. He brought to light how great LSU could be. As a fan, I feel I owe it to respect him because of that. I never dreamed as a kid that I would ever see LSU win a national title.

All that being said, being relaxed and having fun while playing the games has its place too. I wonder if he allows them to do that much.

I'd be willing to bet well over half the players that played for him hated his guts when they were there but appreciated the process later in life.

He doesn't seem like a pleasant person to be around, and seems like he would be impossible to please as an assistant, but he's written a blueprint for how to build a successful program and maintain it over the long term.

Dabo is the polar opposite and has done the same. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

The thing about Saban is, he has influenced the game X and O wise that the casual fan doesnt know or understand. He and Belichek are two of the best tacticians in the games history.

The reason he looks like a fish out of water is that the spread doesn't require a coach to be a great tactician. If your receiver is better than his defender you win, regardless of scheme. Saban has yet to find the answer for winning 1 on 1 matchups more consistently.

When all is said and done he'll be remembered as the greatest college football coach of all time.

He's winning championships in the 85 scholarship era, and in recent years has had to win 2 games to win a championship and not 1. Also, he's been winning in an era when the SEC is the most competitive conference in America.

Regardless of whether you like the guy or not, he's the best.
