Yep, it would be a nightmare for broadcasting.
The way I would logically see it, all TV stations would need to shift to an Eastern Time zone format where late news is at 11 pm and prime time is 8 to 11 pm. But in order to do this year round, the winter time they could use the traditional Eastern feed and once Summer time comes around they will need to use the mountain feeds to delay prime time programming 1 hour for it to start at 8 pm.

Is this something that’s always been bitched about? It seems like it’s become the fashionable thing to do only in recent years.

That would be staying on DST time all year, not opting out of DST.

I want to keep winter time personally, but I get why people prefer the other way.
I think we can all agree this time switching has to go.

I don’t want to lose an hour of after-work/school daylight in the summer, so why not just make daylight savings a year-round thing?
I’m fine with it being dark when I go to work.

Good luck opting out.
California overwhelmingly voted to end the Daylight savings charade in 2018 and, yep still Daylight savings.
Congress controls daylight savings. The Feds, not the States. Pass all the laws you want and unless Congress passes a law allowing State's to decide their own Daylight Savings fate...it will be business as usual.
The Feds want all States to be uniform.

Why do you think this? I like the change. It makes sense in our society, and presents me with zero problems. As I type this, it's still dark out, and would be 7:22 in DST.
