Would also recommend you get checked for sleep apnea. Very unusual to have high blood pressure at such a young age, and most ‘familial’ hypertension is OSA/weight related. Obstructive sleep apnea is a very common cause of hypertension in young people, and with your weight/BMI you would be at risk.

The blood pressure is hereditary. My dad had it in his 20s, my sister got it at 19 and I had it at 23. Every member of my immediate family (mom, dad, sister) as well as a lot of people on my dad's side of the family (uncle, aunt, one cousin) all take blood pressure medication.

I truly understand why they call it the silent killer. My dad had gotten a blood pressure machine and tested mine out. I didn't have any symptoms but my blood pressure was 150/100 and my heart was racing. Crazy thing was I felt fine.

I have thought about sleep apnea but the asthma doctor I go to (who also does sleep apnea) says I don't have the symptoms to justify being tested.
