When you have the gun shouldered you act as a damper and absorb the shock and vibration generated by the recoil. When the gun is rigidly mounted, two things can happen. If the gun isnt jammed into the back of the sled the rifle abruptly accelerates and then stops when it hits the buttstop and the scope guts get rattled all around. If the rifle is jammed up tight when it goes off than the recoil pad is the only dampening involved and theres nothing to protect the rigidly mounted scope from the vibration.
Good mounts and a good scope will never have a problem, but shooting out of a sled is definitely harder on the gun and scope than shoulder firing.

Unless your sled is bolted to the bench or you have some absurd amount of weight on it, I cannot see it causing damage to a gun or scope. The sled will still move slightly in a rearward direction from the recoil, acting similar to a shouldered rifle.
Cheap mounts, improperly torqued screws, or a scope not designed for the caliber are usually the culprit for not holding zero.
Not sure if CVA changed there one piece mount that comes with the gun, but a couple years ago the factory mounts had a bad rep. Went with DNZ Game Reaper one piece on mine and no issues.

I have the CVA Apex and I am shooting the Federal Premium 225gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw round until I run out in a few years.
I believe they stopped making this round but a comparable would be the Nosler Accubond 225gr.
If you happen to reload I would take a look at the Sierra Game King 35 caliber 225gr bullets. I haven't seen any factory ammo using this bullet yet but I think it would be an excellent round.

They took them out of production last year prompting me to buy several boxes, but according to federal's website they are back.

225 grain bear claws. Extremely accurate in my setup and hammers whitetail.

Hornady Superformance out of my little ole cheap H&R crack barrel has been dynamic from 50yds out to 225yds. Fist size exit holes. Internals just mush. Hearts explode. Blood trails outrageous for those that ran. Never had one go more than 60 yds most less than 10 yds if they didn't drop. I've shot them high and low forward and back some and have had good blood every time. Has become my favorite heavy cover style bursh gun year around.
