First, I would say this defense probably ranks in the top three for talent if you go by recruiting rankings.

However, there are other explanations for the large amount of yards and points they give up.

1. LSU has played a lot of really good offenses. In today's game, because of recent rule changes and trends in officiating, good offense beats good defense. For example, you would not say that LSU has played nothing but bad defenses, yet they've lit up every one of them.

2. LSU's offense is so good that LSU builds comfortable leads early in almost every game. Three teams that lit up LSU's defense, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi, trailed at halftime 20-7, 33-13, and 31-7. Everyone of those games had the feel of being over at halftime. This operates psychologically on both teams. LSU tends to let up, and their opponent tends to let it all hang out. When teams dominate crappy teams this doesn't come into effect, but good teams have the talent to rally.

Vandy, Ole Miss, even Northwester St moved the ball. We should shut down those teams and you know it.

I don’t argue the 2nd half letdown angle, but it’s on the coaches to not let that happen. Thanks for making my point for me!
