Here’s a clue. Beating a really good team that wins the rest of their games or at most has one other loss can be beating a top 10 team. Beating teams that end up with 3,4, 5 losses is just beating teams that were overrated to begin with. This happens often with SEC teams particularly since they get an extra rent a win because of the 8 game conference schedule. Then you add in that the fact that every year there’s a team or two or three like Texas A&M that are grossly overrated preseason and you get a lot of “top 10” wins that are nothing but bullshite.

Do you think the Oregon Auburn beat is the same Oregon playing now, 9 games later?

I dont.

if they played today, I'd pick Auburn. You picked terrible teams for your rebuttal.

Oregon got better. Michigan has gotten better. Texas coaching sucks and their coach is too arrogant to think that the problems could be with him or his staff.

Herman’s press conference yesterday. “I’d never say that we got out coached”. fricking narcissist.

And yes, I think it’s the same Oregon. In their history when Oregon plays a talented, physical team they get beat.

The 6 up-to-date points metrics (FPI, SP+, Sagarin, Massey-Peabody, PowerRank, and SRS) that I’m aware of (I also use FEI it that needs updates and is based more on a per-drive basis and needs adjusted) give Auburn about 0.6 point advantage on a neutral field over Oregon on average (4 have Auburn rated higher).

Considering that Auburn came back from 15 (21-6) and won the game with a 26 yard TD pass with only 9 seconds to go (after barely getting a 4th down earlier in the drive) to win by 6, I would say that their game played out similar to how they currently rate.

Auburn is a top-15 in the best conference, while Oregon is a top-15 team in the 4th best conference. So their records and current rankings are reflective of both their quality but also the quality of their conference, which makes Oregon seem a bit better than they probably are in reality.
