undefeated conf champs dont automatically get it. there arent even enough playoff spots for that scenario (Bix XII, Pac 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC).

If 1 loss, non-division winning Alabama gets in over an undefeated Big XII Champion Baylor, then frick the playoff and the committee.
No one could ever again say the regular season means something if a P5 team wins every game put in front of them, then gets left out of the Playoff for a 1 loss team that people think is better.
Obviously if we had 5 undefeated conference champions, someone is getting left out. But if you have 4 undefeated champs and a 1 loss team whose resume is topped by a win over a 4 loss Auburn, frick that team. They shouldn't get in.
