It is far more serious than most realize.

I had mine used by someone in another state. I spent several grand on lawyers defending myself from collection attempts, hundreds of phone calls (and ultimately yet another lawyer) trying to correct my credit reports, and getting the city of Atlanta to acknowledge that it wasn’t me who acquired a collection of traffic violations was a multiple-month headache ... dealing with all of it took me many months.

Even 15 years later once in a while some random issue will pop up.

Dealing with all of that shite was most definitely a level of hell worthy of Dante.
