Is Joe beating Bama and winning the Heisman better than Billy Cannon beating Ole Miss and winning the Heisman?
Back then, football was nothing like it is today. Cannon was basically the best kid in PE class. Joe is the best qb and possibly player in LSU history. There’s no comparison.
Burrow is the best QB in LSU history, may break an NCAA record for completion % and will go down as one of the best Tigers ever.
However, I'd never say there was no comparison. Billy Cannon led LSU to it first and only undefeated national championship season. In the Sugar Bowl when they beat Clemson 7-0, he threw for the only TD and kicked the extra point. Seriously. He also punted for LSU. He became a Heisman-winning RB while being a defensive standout and sometimes playing WR, punter, fg kicker, the punter returner, kickoff returner and even QB.
The national sportswriters named him not only the RB of the decade of the 50s, but also cornerback of the decade. When he won the Heisman, he dominated the vote and had more votes than the next 8 players who got votes combined. Also, he had one of the greatest and most viewed plays in college football history with his Halloween run against Ole Miss. Billy was a legend (just like Joe will be if he beats Bama and wins the Heisman).
