As usual the skills position players, rightfully so, are reaping a lot of attention during this magical season so far.
CSE and Brady are mentioned left and right. NONE of it happens without the job Coach Cregg has done with the OL. Dealing with player suspensions and injuries he's shuffled the deck well and maximized performance.
I just want to give a shout out to battery that makes things go

They have improved greatly over last season.....but LSU is currently ranked 57th in sacks allowed. So there is still a lot of improvement needed.

Do you think that’s partially because of how much we throw it? We’re 39th in sack percentage (5.19%) based on the amount we throw. Last year we were 8.02%. That’s a pretty massive difference.

I'll add some context to why I'll take it...
We used to give up way too many sacks for how many times we passed the ball. The number of sacks we have now, compared to how many times we are passing the ball isn't that bad (sack rate).
In fact, I'll go back to the first GOTC in honor of this week's Gump slaughter....

- 2019: 5.2
- 2018: 9.0
- 2017: 10.0
- 2016: 6.4
- 2015: 6.1
- 2014: 9.0
- 2013: 7.7
- 2012: 9.0
- 2011: 6.5
- 2010: 7.6 (just to show the change to a NCG appearance)
And if you want to do sack rate per completion or yds. (i.e. efficiency), we've never had a better year as far as my lazy butt wants to go back.
And while I'm going to say the 'majority' of that is players. One has to admit scheme matters too. We've had some very good lines with NFL'ers in the past, and never had as good a sack rate year as this and, obviously, never run a scheme like this.
So does scheme help you OL or do you enhanced/max protect to avoid sacks? Evidence above is obvious. Lower sack rate and more productivity. If I never see another 2 TE formation with FB at LSU I'll be very happy (barring inside the 1 goal to go).

When they all got their assignments right they were good last year. And this year they have been great. Had some problems against Auburn dline, but that dline had some very good linemen on it. It's more likely a play is successful when the defense doesn't know what's coming. And with this new offense it makes plays more unpredictable and helps olinmen be more successful. Plus they are a year older than last season. Out of 14 olinemen total there are just 2 seniors. Barring early entrants into the NFL draft LSU will have a very experienced and mature oline next season. The offense will be even better next season than this season. Seems a lot of people have no confidence in Brennan, but physically he is more talented than Burrow. Taller, stronger arm, and he will have game experience and know the offense inside and out. 2020 LSU's offense will break all the records the 2019 offense is setting. And a lot of the reason they will is how good the oline will be.
