They’ll have to choose between Onyemata and Apple and they’ll likely choose the corner especially because Rankins deserves a contract before Onyemata and both will command a hefty price.
Because of the premium on good CB play, it’s just smarter to re-sign Apple instead of Onyemata even though I love Onyemata

If it hasnt happened yet I dont think it will. Saints and whomever probably couldnt agree on compensation value.
I don't see the team making any moves either, but just because it hasn't happen doesn't mean it won't. The closer we get to the deadline, the more leverage the team with the player has. Very well could be a negotiation process to try to squeeze a little extra out of teams.

While Apple has played better, Onyemata has played better than Apple, and CGJ may make Apple expendable, especially since Lattimore will cost us a lot. Brown has played well though, so Onyemata May become more expendable too.
BTW, this is why I don’t see us making any moves. We have to many FA to sign the next two years.

Do we really need to make any moves?
I would like to keep my draft picks if possible.

CJG doesn't solve the outside corner issue though. And all of our nickel corners suck outside too.

If we can get a legit WR for a 4th rounder...I would make a trade.
I just don't want to give up any premium picks. This is just my opinion, but rounds 1-3 are what I would consider premium. Huge drop-off in talent after the 3rd. Maybe early 4th as well, but our 4th won't be anywhere near an early 4th.
We got CGJ in the early 4th. Some legit talent always slips into the early 4th.

I don’t see Onymata costing too much even though he’s been really good

Yea, CGJ doesn't play outside CB at all.
After Latt/Apple, Crawley is the only other pure outside CB. PJ Williams can play outside, but he's below average. PJ is a solid slot CB, but that's only b/c he's so good against the run.

CGJ is a slot guy not outside. We have no outside corner depth outside of Ken Crawley

I hope we can somehow keep our top 5 DB's next year.
Lattimore - signed thru 2020, with a 5th year option in 2021. Not an issue right now.
Apple - F.A. in 2020.
Marcus Williams - F.A. in 2020.
Vonn Bell - F.A. in 2020.
CGJ - signed thru 2022 with a tiny cap #. Not an issue right now.
PJ Williams is also a free agent in 2020, but I doubt he'll be back unless we can't re-sign Vonn Bell. Without Bell...CGJ is our Strong Safety. Without PJ Williams...CGJ is our slot CB. Personally, I like Vonn Bell more than PJ Williams.
It's going to be tough bringing all these guys back. Klein will probably sign elsewhere unless we get a discount. PRob is a guaranteed cut, & Kiko Alonso has a 6.4 mil cap hit with ZERO dead money if cut. If Kiko wants to play here in 2020...he needs to restructure his contract.
I'd like to keep Onyemata as well, but that's a complete question mark right now. The thing working against Onyemata is Rankins' 5th year option is next year (7.69 mil cap #), & Malcom Brown's 2020 cap # is 6.0 mil.

As absurd as this may sound...we actually need Crawley for depth. He gets the 1st call if Lattimore or Apple goes down.
I'd take Crawley over CGJ, PJ Williams, PRob, & Hardee at outside CB. Not even close really.

After looking over the roster, the only guys that we could afford to trade (due to depth & desirability) are...
OL Nick Easton
DT/DE Mario Edwards or DE Trey Hendrickson...just 1 of them, not both
CB Patrick Robinson
We either need everyone else or the player just wouldn't be wanted by another team imo.

Isn't Marcus Williams a FA in 2021?
