I'm asking this question because I'm interested in where the line is drawn between an alcoholic and someone who likes to drink.
I drink every day because I enjoy it but only at home and rarely in public. I don't feel like I ever get "drunk" where I'm falling down and schitt. Don't get mean.
Recently I went six weeks without drinking to prove a point. It was hard I admit but no problemo. What say you baws? And if you say you're an alcoholic for asking you can frickk right off immediately mfer. Tia

Physical addiction. You can have a drinking problem and not be addicted.

Always felt like an alcoholic was someone that loved the numbing feeling after a few drinks and so on and so forth. Many people believe in varying degrees of it.

Maybe this

Very likely this

Don't dumb it down in your head. The disease isn't about consumption it's a lot more profound than that. Sometimes you don't even know if you're bitten you just think it's controllable. There is no such thing as a "limit" if your chemistry is what it is.

Was it hard because your body was craving it? If so, it’s probably a physical addiction.

Does that make you an alcoholic? I don’t think so - not necessarily. I think of an alcoholic as someone who abuses liquor.

I drank a lot from my mid-teens to my early forties but I've slowed down in a big big way in recent years. No conscious decision or big moment of clarity, just sort of lost the taste for it. It caused me problems more than once or twice but I never came close to bottoming out. There are functioning alcoholics/drunks. The idea that every hard drinker ends up in the gutter is pure marketing propaganda from the rehab industry.

IMO, an alcoholic is one who is sloppy drunk everyday but someone who drinks in moderation daily is ok.

Well at AA meetings being an alchoholic is two things.

1. A physical allergy - meaning once you start you cant stop

2. Mental obsession - You think about it all the time, which leads you to drink ,and then you cant stop once you start.

That's an over simplification, but that's the jist of how the addiction community sees it.

According to science, I am at low-risk for alcoholism because I consume four or fewer beers per day. And I tend to only drink on the weekends, but there are exceptions depending upon circumstance. That being said, there are times when I think that I need to cut back after consuming three or four beers in a single night. It's all about how you feel about your drinking IMHO, especially when you don't really drink as much.

When you often drink more than originally intended

When you consistently regret actions done while drinking

When your drinking affects personal relationships.

When your drinking consistently keeps you from being your best you (work, husband, person)

If any of the above are correct, then you have a problem with drinking.

Varies by person, but I think when you MUST have a drink, regardless of circumstance, is a sign of a potential problem.

I don’t drink unless I’m by myself or with somebody so I don’t think I are one.
