if I lob a ball to you 50 times, how many will you drop?
Still more of a chance than if you just handed it to me.

From between your legs?....while not looking at me?....with a 330 lb dude that wants it within 2 yds of me?
Look, either one is of a small risk. He could have gone under center. But, it is not a "no brainer"

lets do something we haven't done the entire game on arguably the most important snap of the game.

I was all excited because I thought he might throw the ball so he could get 7 yards and make Jesse Palmer look more stupid than he already did with his pregame takes.

I think that in order to save Burrow or Brennan from possibly jamming a thumb, LSU should have had Peter Parish take those last snaps!

You act as if Burrow never took a snap under center in his life.
Don't be dense. I said he had not been under center all game.

And? The victory formation is not ran until the end of games.

Yes. I would have run the last couple plays out of the victory formation.
We were at our own ~3 yard line. If you take 2 knees, you're right at your own goal line.

the SAFESTand SMARTEST thing to do with time running out is to go under center and take a knee- however you could be stubborn and take a slightly more risky direct snap considering we were near the goal line

Maybe being nit picky but bad things have happened to LSU inside their own 10 yard line this year (fumbles, interceptions) in hindsight maybe taking a knee with 40 seconds left in the game and Florida with 1 TO left would've been smarter. Hey, like I said that's being nit picky.

We couldn't kill the clock if we took a knee for three straight plays. We had to run plays that used some time and we didn't have room to do the kneel downs where the QB backs up and delays taking the knee
This is what I was thinking at the time. I had no problem with them being in shotgun. Gotta stay out of the endzone and the best way to do it was running your normal offense imo.
I have zero stats to back this opinion, but it doesn't seem to me that a shotgun snap is more risky than a direct snap. On the rare occasion an error happens in shotgun it seems the QB always gets the ball anyway. I can't tell you how many times i've seen a ball go over a qb's head or he bobbles it and the qb still gets it. shite, just this weekend I saw a qb in shotgun pick up the ball and throw a TD. We all have seen botched direct snaps that end up getting kicked by the center or pulling guard. Regardless, the difference in % of risk between shotgun and direct snap are probably so minimal, the best choice imo would be to just run your normal offense to stay out of the endzone.
Just my 2c worth.
