quote:
The utility related to dopamine release decreases everytime we perform an action that makes us "happy"
So in a since seeking just happiness is the path to depression and anxiety
Maybe there is more to life than being "happy"
This is actually pretty much the First of the Four Noble Truths in Buddhism: life always involves suffering; even when times are good, there is still anxiety lurking.
The rest extend from there:
- That suffering is caused by our cravings and desires (for wealth, sex, materials, security, safety, whatever)
- Suffering can end by freeing ourselves from such cravings and desires
- Following the noble path in life will free ourselves from cravings and desires, and suffering
