Paul Dietzel deserves mentioning.

A great pick... But as the time has moved on, Saban was ahead of his time by getting Emmrick to get him what he said he needed.... He left like a bitch, but set the next coach{Les Miles] for ultimate success........... Miles ended up having agreat record at LSU, But with ALL the athletes he had during his tenure, he could have done way better if he wasn't so hard headed..............

Exactly! Probably the most successful coach in LSU history. Won 1 NC and played for another. It's mind-boggling to think what saban could have done had he stayed at LSU, but.... Really could say the same for Dietzel. Cholly Mac had some great years early on, just couldn't win that 1 more game to win it all. Obviously the best coach was saban, not the most successful, but history proves he was the best. I'm really hoping Ed O surpasses saban and Miles in success. He will never be mentioned as being a better coach, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be more successful. HC's don't really coach, they hire the coaches and manage teams, motivate and recruit. They make sure other coaches are coaching and getting the job done.
