As far as AirBnB goes, try and find something off off Highland Road SOUTH of campus. I know people who have found goos spots there.
Following Highland road north is a bad idea.
Also, anything in Sothdowns is a good spot (east of campus and slightly north). Streets are named after trees/ plants/ flowers.

I'd also add Collegetown into your search. Not sure if there are many places that AirBnB there, but if so it would be very convenient.
ETA: There's only one AirBnB I found near Collegetown, and Laura must be out of her goddamn mind with this price.
