nope, we cant at the school I teach/coach at now and we couldn't at walker either. sorry.
so your reality is the standard for everyone else in the state? do you know what the word MYOPIA means?
you do realize that Association rules have to be unilateral for all members right? Just because your school doesn't "recruit" doesn't mean that public schools across the state don't recruit.
I played basketball at a public in the late 80s, coached basketball at two privates throughtout the 90s/2000s and can tell you unequivocally the difference between the two environments:
1. in the private school the kids were essentially clients, so you had to spend more time with them and you couldn't mistreat them or ignore them. You had to be way more patient
2. the kids we had in the privates were all we had, there is a shortage on people willing to send their kids to a private school and an even greater shortage of kids willing to go to private schools. So we had to make the most out of our kids with scheme, coaching, program continuity, workouts etc
3. in the private environment we pretty much interacted with the kids 12 months out of the year. Spring and summer were AAU and summer league and workouts
4. in the public environment the best players in the school didnt play for the team. Grades, apathy, bad attitudes, lack of commitment etc
5. coaches treated kids like commodities - there were always more kids coming behind you
6. we did nothing in the summer as a team - a lot of that has changed today and there are more resources and outlets for publics to get together during the offseason

This is what I was getting at with the "recruiting the hallways" comment.
