love Ben Watson but where did he go to college? UGA. A top 50 university academically with a top 5 football team. Yet he wants to advocate for kids to forgo a similar opportunity? Definitely comes off as a equality for thee but not for me moment.
I always get the impression that some people believe that a Colleges like UGA somehow made Ben Watson? Walter Payton / Jerry Rice ( and dozens of other HCBU greats ) didn't need P5 schools to succeed either.

Payton was from a different, segregated era where there weren’t nearly as many possible landing spots for a black athlete.
Rice and Air McNair were in an era of integration but one where HBCUs were still getting decent talent comparable to other FCS programs.
These days? There aren’t a ton of high picks in FCS, let alone from HBCUs. The last two firsts from HBCUs were Dominique Rogers Cromartie our of Tennessee State and Joe Flacco our of Delaware State.
The ones who tend to get picked high out of those small schools are at positions of extreme need or are athletic freaks.
Watson was a late 1st despite high visibility coming out of Georgia. He goes to a HBCU like Jacksonville St, Florida A and M, or Morehouse and he likely slips 1-2 rounds if not more.
That’s not denigrating his talent as much as pointing out that playing on TV every week against high level opponents gets you on scouts’ radars easier and gives them more film to work with.

quote:Ok. So now that he is a grown man, did he choose to send his kids to the black schools in NOLA or not?
