Waterproofing is superior without it. I would much rather have that on a phone, than having superior audio quality with douchey looking over the ear headphones in public that you need to get that quality.
The stupid desire to have way too thin phones across the board with manufacturers seems to be a big driver of this too. I don't mind a bit more width, squeeze in more battery too. Camera notches are dumb.

Up until this year, Samsung had a phone with a headphone jack and a stylus going up an entire side of the phone so your argument is invalid.

This must be some kind of troll. Over the ear headphone are douchy? Have you seen Airpods? You can get superior audio quality from any stupe of wired earphones.
