My deal is that media has to be entertainment first and foremost.
Politics can be present but not be an overwhelming part of the work. Mainly because “subtle” is not in the vocabulary of most people in Hollywood.
An example I love to trot out of this done well is the original Twilight Zone, where Rod Serling would approach topics that were normally hot button (ex - nuclear weapons) through a sci-fi / fantasy / horror filter to where you weren’t necessarily being beaten over the head with it.
He didn’t always succeed but those attempts were better than a lot of hamfisted works which don’t really age well from the same timeframe.

Same here; it's not as if politics can't be present or a movie sucks, it's just that being beat over the head with something isn't entertaining. It doesn't matter if I agree with the view or not, although I can no doubt tolerate more of a view I agree with before it ruins the entertainment.
For whatever reason I remember one of the first times I noticed it, and it was in a budget movie called Sneakers. Some homeless guy said something and Robert Redford points to a campaign poster for Bush and says "tell it to him". Absolutely nothing to do with the plot, just a little masturbatory material for Redford. I just remember thinking how weird and unprofessional it was. I thought at the time they were in the entertainment business.

Rod Serling was a die-hard anti-Communist. He wouldn't last today.
