It's more like this...

AggieHank suffers from a mental illness, the effects of which cause him to like to stick his pecker in the same orifice from which another man expels feces instead of using it to procreate, as is actually natural and normal and AggieHank thinks this is acceptable and normal behavior outside of College Station, Texas. Since AggieHank likes sticking his pecker in the anus of another man, he insists he should be granted special legal protections that allow him to "marry" (or pretend to marry, rather) the other anus.

Joe (and every other sane, reasonable, and honest person) KNOWS that children need both mothers and fathers to be nurtured and raised into being healthy adults and citizens. Joe (and every other sane, reasonable, and honest person) KNOWS that allowing men who suffer from mental illness and like to stick their hoglegs inside the anuses of other men to "marry" and/or adopt children will be harmful to both the children and society, as a whole, later, for those reasons and more.

Thus, Joe is against AggieHank "marrying" the owner of the anus into which he thrusts his weiner and adopting children to later be influenced by his mental illness. However, Joe doesn't really care what AggieHank does in the privacy of his own home with other willing adults who suffer from the same mental illness and refuses to treat Joe harshly because of it, will continue to be Joe's friend and eat with him, socialize with him, work with him, and help him in any way.
