After watching the Texas/LT game

I’m confident Burrow will have a big game. Texas’ defense had trouble with misdirections and screens to the backs. Brady should feast on this. The corners played off a bit too. Tech has success running the ball. Some of the running plays had rb’s running into the qb negating any success. Tech has success on quick slants. It reminded me of LSU’s first touchdown against Georgia Southern. Only times Texas got any pressure was when they blitzed. If Burrow reads them, he will light Texas up!
Ehlinger looked good, but he hardly had anyone in his face. Pressure up the middle from our bigs will make a long night for Ehlinger. If we stop him on qb keeps, they will be one dimensional and Chaisson will feast! I was impressed with Texas’ special teams. They tackle well in space. Hoping Stingley can have a big return on a punt. Their kicker is solid too. I think LSU will win by at least two scores. 34-20 type of game.

And Tech displayed very poor tackling skillls. Hopefully our tackling will be as solid as it was against Georgia Southern.

Agree. Lots of Texas yards were after first contact. LSU tackled so well against GS.

I realize La Tech is the only game you can use to determine how Texas looks but it’s probably not indicative of how they will look against us. This is a playoff game for them because they cannot afford to lose due to their weak schedule. They will be ready and throw everything and the kitchen sink at us in this one. Gotta take the crowd out early in this one.

Their Dline is hot garbage, their dc tries to mask this by blitzing constantly. Burrow feasts first half, boring clock killing by us + Texas backup qb ineptitude 2nd half.

Orlando’s D-Line isn’t what you would call “traditional”. It’s meant to occupy space, not necessarily penetrate. A base 3-3-5 will typically have a “flyer” (or 2) coming in on a majority of the plays. He disguises who that “flyer” will be and uses stunts when pressure is to be generated. The goal of it is to not tip the hand to the QB as to where the heat will be coming from. The QB’s ability to identify/recognize where the heat is coming from determines whether there is success or not on the play. A quick/short passing game is able to nullify the pressure from this scheme though.

I have a feeling history (sort of) repeats itself...
After Bama beat Texas for the NC in 2010, all you heard in Texas was, "We'd have beaten them if we would have had Colt!". For the record, they lost their quarterback, Colt McCoy, when he ran with ball into a rather brutal SEC defense and got crunched. They had him for the game, and they squandered him.
Now in 2019, Texas is going to face a brutal SEC defense, and just like in 2010, they intend to have their QB run the ball. The way Chaisson has started the year, he could very easily knock Ehlinger into December (and his legal hit will probably get called targeting). Then for the next year we will hear nothing but, "We'd have won if we would have had Ehlinger!"
