Open container laws in Austin?

Does anyone know what the laws are? Will we be able to walk around with open beers pretty much anywhere around the stadium/downtown?

You'll need to pour it in a cup. Don't walk around with just cans or bottles of beer.

You can't even walk out of a bar with a water... so no you will not be able to walk around downtown with beer, and yes they are crazy strict. I think they started doing a concert thing by the stadium where you can have alcohol, but I'm not sure what the setup is. Stick to the tailgate area or inside a bar to do any drinking.

To save you time, just go ahead and assume pretty much any place outside of the boot shaped state will not let you walk around with a beer. That is a very LA specific thing, and really a NO specific thing

It is quite legal to drink publicly in most areas of Austin. There are some designated areas in which it is not. You can see a map of them here:
