Ensminger must get more aggressive in the red zone..

Imo Ensminger can call a decent game but Obviously the RZ offense has been bad.. Last season they laid up too often and relied on Tracy. Forgive me for mentioning the LSU A&M game I wked last year and only caught pieces and most of OT. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it again this offseason. Well the 4th OT I caught tonight and I thought E dropped the ball. Hindsight is 20/20 but he made mistakes by pulling a fresh Lanard who was making plays and looked better and fresher than Nick who was tired and getting stuffed. And the he goes b2b Qb draws and basically played for the tie n the 4th OT. Go for the win at that point. Especially on the road. Hopefully they utilize the backs n the flats and let guys like McMath and Sullivan go up and get balls in the end zone.

We relied too much on the kicker because he was automatic. We don’t have him anymore so we better be aggressive.

I remember in Florida game it was 4th and inch and we decided to kick a field goal in our redzone and also ND in the bowl game year prior. Idk if it is Ensminger or O that gets conservative in redzone but we need to start going for the throat in that territory

Yeah!! Orgeron and Ensminger have been bigtime wussies in the red zone! Great kicker or not, you gotta throw the football in the red zone. And they are not alone. I've seen many a good coaches always wanting to keep it on the ground down there. F that!! I always loved Mike Holmgren's throw first philosophy in the red zone, and Sean Payton calls it great too.

And really i should mention Chase. He looked the best at goin up and high pointing the ball. He got so close to several more TDs

Felt that way too often. Like they didn't want to get overly aggressive and make a mistake when you've got a guaranteed 3 points in your back pocket.
And I guess theres some amount of merit to that. You do hate to throw a bad interception and not get at least 3 points in such close range. But it almost felt like the play calls were so safe they were settling for 3 points rather than gunning for 7.

I'll concur. I would like to think they knew they had a guaranteed 3 pts, and altered the red zone offense because of that.

Plus the fact that our plays don't force WR separation...which makes it incredibly difficult to pass in the RZ.

Think the new plus and scheme will help with that. Also receivers with a year experience along with the QB helps earn that trust factor to put some jump balls up for grabs.

I've made fun of the whole Brady / saints thing, because I'm not sure how Much we can actually run without drew brees...but
Redzone plays and scheme is an area that the saints excel and can be learned from. Especially pick plays, slants, and sneaking the RB to the middle of the field.

I understand. I've been dreaming of a near replica, but in the back of my mind I'm telling myself don't hold your breath. I do like Joe Burrow, and we've got Joe Brady, so I'm holding out a lot of hope.

Wouldn't it be nice to use our full compliment of available weapons as threats in red zone situations?
•Sullivan at 6'6 now a TE going over the middle or to the back of the endzone.
•Outside WRs like Chase and Marshall.. Jefferson in the slot
•A bowling ball like CEH who's a solid pass catcher out of the backfield and tough to bring down.
One formation I'd like to see this year is a 2 TE set with Moss and Sullivan bookending the line and Tory Carter returning to his FB/H-back position. There's a lot of potential pass plays you can run off a play action look there.

Probably cost us the damn UF game. He didn't even think about challenging that spot, couldn't get the kicker out there fast enough.

This coach has a good draw up of the kind of 2 TE I form plays I'd like to see in short yardage or goal line.
Look at his personnel board there and you can kind of imagine and draw up your own plays there based on who we could have out there. You can have one of Moss or Sullivan release their block and get out to catch a pass. Send Carter out on a slant. Slip out CEH beyond the linebackers. In goal line you could run a pick play.
I was actually watching old highlights last night and there was a 2017 touchdown play against Florida that's cut from the same mold. Play at the 1 yard line, Foster Moreau on one end of the line and JD Moore on the other. Tory Carter and Guice in the backfield. Moore and Carter run slants into the endzone and Etling had his choice of 2 wide open guys.
