Exactly. They ‘spared’ the Rose Bowl. Part of the deal was that the Rose Bowl was not involved. Thus, the matchup of Big Ten/Pac 10 was preserved.

Rose wasn't part of the Alliance though. So the Alliance couldn't do anything.
