Usually, it's a good thing. But it's not as black and white as people tend to think it is.

As a homeowner and a renter, it’s much easier to be a renter.
The idea that your primary residence is an investment is BS. In order to make money off your primary residence, you have to be able to cash out or change the situation (move to place with a lower housing cost). You can’t trade apples for apples in the same city since everyone else’s properties are subject to the same market forces as yours.
