I was familiar with the show, but didn't watch it. NewsRadio was supposed to showcase Foley and, to a lesser degree, Tierney. Hartman came in and stole the show.

Foley was really the glue that held the show together, a sane person surrounded by lunacy. I loved it when they showed Foley in his office watching Green Acres in homage. One of the best all around casts ever, definitely a favorite.

Spade has said that his advice from Hartman when leaving SNL was to take a series or project where he was a featured player or part of an ensemble (Hence, Just Shoot Me). Made me think that Hartman was offered a starring role in a sitcom or two, and he took Newsradio instead so he could excel with less pressure.
