One of two ways. You could simply ignore his ignorance since you are never going to make any headway with someone who clearly views himself a put upon victim. A trait of many, many leftists. Regardless of his giving off "smartest guy in the room vibes" since he absolutely questions his self worth. Or you could kind of ease into a discussion of whether or not he has been disadvantaged in someway which has lead to holding a lot of anger and hate. Then name someone who would dearly love to be in his position but has failed to achieve his status but whose personality has not been affected.
