Niagara Falls

I’m in Toronto. I’m renting a car and driving out to Niagara Falls on Friday morning. No tour, just solo. Any recommendations? Places to go , things to do, vantage points to check out,,, OR maybe more importantly things to avoid.

Canadian falls side is better than US side for vantage points. My usual tour is to head to Canadian side via the rainbow bridge, walk along the river past the sheraton and head towards table rock center. Best views will be along that stretch. I'm not sure about parking, but I'm sure there's garages or lots. Decent casino over there (so I've heard) called Fallsview. There's a lot of food options off Ferry St., we ate at a burger place last time that was pretty good. Lots of souvenir shops if you want any canadian flair. Also a lot of haunted houses and ripleys believe or not sort of places. You should take one of the boat tours either from the canadian or US side and go under the falls, pretty neat
Since you've got your passport, you can walk over to the US side via the rainbow bridge if you want but there's not much besides the state park and the niagara gorge. Downtown Niagara Falls US side is not nice, but the park has some decent views as well. Crazy to see and hear how fast the water moves when you're right next to it

Cool, thanks. So you DO recommend one of those poncho wearing boat tours?? I’m certainly open to it if folks think it’s worth it. I was hoping that someone here would either talk me IN or talk me OUT of it. I’ll be solo and have plenty of free time that day. I just need to be back in Toronto Friday night for Yankees and Blue Jays.

Yes, do one of the tours. Definitely worth the experience to do once, the boat will take you to the middle of horseshoe falls. On the US side it's the maid of the mist. On the canadian side, not sure what it's called but I know tickets are right by the zipline.

yeah do the boat tour, and do the tour inside the falls. There's really not much else to do, but it's a cool place to see once and say you did it.

OP howd trip go this morning? I'd do a half day there and spend the rest of the time here in buffalo, lot going on every weekend. Bit windy today but otherwise perfect august day

Agree with what has been said. 2 days, boat tour and inside tour. A couple things to do down stream but mainly at falls area. A nice restaurant overlooking the falls at nice was nice. It's a 2 story older building if I remember right.

Update:
Thanks for earlier advice... I was on very limited time. Slept in late that morning and left Toronto considerably later then expected. I drove out with intention just to see the Falls. I couldn’t be that close in proximity (80-90 miles away in Toronto) and not venture out there. Loved it. Amazing thing to see in person. Did the Hornblower as recommended.
Glad I made my way out there. I didn’t attempt on this journey, and frankly didn’t have time, to cross back over into the States.
My entire goal was just to see it and check off another box. I was probably there no more than 4-5 hrs or so in total and drove right back to Toronto late afternoon.
