Me and some family members are headed to the Kenai Peninsula for a week long fishing trip. We will have at least one day to ourselves to do some sight seeing. Anyone have recommendations for what to do for a day around Kenai or Soldotna?

Go down to Homer. Cross the bay to Halibut Cove if you can

Hike the trails around Cooper Landing, just an amazing location. Slaughter Gulch trail takes you into the alpine and it's gorgeous. Little strenuous though.

If you got a few coins, catch a plane across the inlet to Katmai or Lake Clark and watch the bears.

Eat at The Saltry. There are also lots of good restaurants in Homer.

I have an uncle who lives in Homer and has a summer cabin in Peterson Bay, right next to Halibut Cove. Make sure to follow the boardwalk through Halibut Cove. Nice walk.

Soldotna doesn’t have much to see but I agree Homer is the better option.

Yep, outside of the fishing, that area is flat and fairly boring if you're into scenery. But it's very close to some really cool places.

Seward is even a couple of hours away and taking an excursion into Kenai Fjords is well worth it, or hiking around the exit glacier.

Homer is a fun place to check out. Take one of the Bear Viewing flights over to Silver Salmon or Chinitna Bay. You can arrange them out of Homer.

If you're interested in the Aurora, keep up with this site when you're there
