Stadium Drive Enterprise

The AD has spoken “This needs to be run as an enterprise”. Then an enterprise he should have. The University can license the Louisiana State University/LSU name and brand to the Enterprise for a percentage of its annual gross revenues. The Enterprise can pay a User Fee for use of University facilities such as the majority of Tiger Stadium, Maravich Assembly Center, Alex Box Stadium, Bernie Moore Stadium, etc. Also, the Enterprise can lease property from the University occupied by facilities owned by TAF (e.g. South Stadium expansion, suites at Tiger Stadium, Alex Box, etc.) The Tiger Band, Golden Girls (?)and other entities not part of the Enterprise will receive an Appearance Fee for event performances. Everybody gets what they want. The AD gets his Enterprise and the University gets paid for use of things it owns. It’s a win/win. Does anybody see a problem with this?

That's the kind of critical analysis I expect from the majority of people on this board

I had a weird flashback to 2003. I dig it

What other school has such an arrangement? Why do you want to harm LSU’s ability to be successfully in its most visible area, one that promotes more pride in the school among the alumni and the community than anything else?

Not quite sure running it as an Enterprise is a good idea...

Yet you created an account to post your thoughts.
I guess that makes you right on par with the rest of this board.

You are not including the advertising value of athletics. I always go back to the President of Miss St talking about the football success in the late 90s. Sherrill had gotten them to Atlanta in 1998. He said that Alumni contributions, out of state enrollment, legacy enrollment, and ever other public facing aspect of the university had SOARED as a result of three better than expected football seasons. Alabama's endowment has apparently exploded into the top 100 due to Saban's success.
The fact is very few athletic departments operate in the black, much less give 7 to 10 million in cash back to the university.
Do I wish we ( I include myself ) would contribute more to the academic side? YES. I alway have contributed more to the Alumni Fund than I do to TAF. Well, except for the Tiger Cage. I bought one of those paintings by George Rodrigue, but I don't really consider that an Athletic contribution. But, the reality is, I could have done more.
Instead of complaining about athletic stuff, I would suggest you get out and beat the bushes raising more money for the academic side.

The UF Athletics program is 100% separated from UF itself. All facilities are owned and operated by their respective "TAF"
I see this coming in the near future for LSU.
Woody agrees to pay LSU $10M/year for 10 years and TAF gets ownership of all facilities and revenues from sporting events.
