Airline Credit Card

Trying to pick the best credit card for sign up bonus points to use for airline travel. Wanting to fly to Nashville for the LSU game. I tried for the Southwest card, but I've had it before and not sure if I've had too many chase credit cards in the last two years. I looked and Jet Blue doesn't fly there. Any recommendations?

I just got the Citi AA Advantage card. 60,000 points and annual fee waived. They have a portal through which you can redeem the points (60k is worth $720).

Just a FYI. You’re cutting it close to even getting the points in time to book the flight for mid-September.

Yea my wife and I were just talking about that. But I wonder if I can purchase the ticketss on the CC then pay it off with the points.

It's worth more like $4,000 if you know what you're doing.
OP, don't focus just on the airline cards but bank cards that transfer to those airlines.
Unfortunately for you Chase is the bank with transfers to Southwest.

How would I turn that into $4,000?
Any other suggestions on bank cards?

If you're in for AA Miles, get the Citi AA Business Card, the Barclays Aviator Card, and (if possible) the Barclays Aviator Business Card

How much do you fly? From the way I read your post it seems like not very often so getting a miles credit card doesn't really make much sense to me. You'd be better off in the long run just turning points into cash and using that to offset some of your trip expenses.

I agree with your assessment

Bigger value tickets. Won't get that flying domestically

I thought AA points were for flights only? What is this portal to convert to cash?

That’s not how it works.

It is how it works for one of the Barclays cards.

Oh yeah I just meant $725 worth of travel. Cash redemption is much lower. Also, sure you can make it worth thousands if international business class travel is your thing

A 2% cash back card beats the brakes off airline reward cards every single time unless you are just after the signup bonus IMHO.

In his first sentence he mentioned being in it for the bonus

Correct, this is more for the initial bonus points.

You could go for a card like the Capital One Venture and would be able to use the points from signup to write off your cash flight ticket.
