Are accents the craziest thing in speech?

Think about thick accents. The folks from India that speak English are some of the thickest accents I can think of. I wonder what caused it to begin with. My only guess is that it continues to be a learned behavior from upbringing.
I’m in Lafayette, and I could easily listen to a Lafayette chick talk all night. A Lafayette 6 easily turns into a 7 if she’s got that thick accent with a sprinkle of acadiana words tossed in the sentence.

Debatable.

Ever hear a woman with an Oxbridge English accent say the word “condom”?
It is a wonderful experience.

I think with some languages it's harder because they have to make different sounds in English that their mouths and tongues never learned how to do. It would be like trying to learn all the clicks and whistles in Swahili for us.

Many of the port-city accents, New York, New Orleans, Boston, are similar in many respects.

I have often wondered why people from different countries, states and different parts of Louisiana have distinct accents.

I don't understand the people who pick up accents after a few years. I have a cousin who went OT McNeese and came back like she was born and raised in Eastern Texas.

I’m guilty of this. I moved around a ton as an army brat so I always assumed it was some subconscious thing I did to try to fit in since I was always the new kid.
