A few questions about the 2011 Oklahoma State-Iowa State game (LSU-related)

1. Who were you rooting for in that game?

2. What was your reaction upon learning the final result (whether it was live or finding out later)

Here are my answers for those questions:

1. I was obviously cheering for Oklahoma State. I knew at the time they were the last line of defense between us and a rematch with Bama. I was not able to watch the game live due to me being in the band for the Barbe-Ponchatoula football playoff game. I honestly didn't think much of the game at the time, figuring it would be an easy Oklahoma State win.

2. When I got home, my dad told me about the Iowa State upset. Needless to say, that turned my disappointment from us losing to Barbe up to eleven.

I was rooting for Oklahoma St. without a doubt. We would have slapped them in the NC game that year, and would have gone down as one of the greatest teams of all time. Screw Iowa St. for that. I don’t remember my reaction to Iowa St. winning however, I wanna say they kicked a field goal to win it, and I knew we would have our rematch with Bama.

Was rooting for Oklahoma State because us to play them in the championship and because they deserved a win after the plane crash tragedy.

Think I just cursed and moved on to another beer and flipped the channel to the next game.

Had just landed in Hawaii while the game was about to end. Watched it at the hotel bar. Was in disbelief knowing bans would get another shot at us

I agree. Even if we had lost, it wouldn't have been such a program-changer like losing to Alabama was. The game changed recruiting for both schools. The fact that the rematch happened basically allowed Alabama to tell prospects, "Why would you go to LSU and have to go 2-0 against us and win the SEC title to win the national title, when you could come here, go 1-1 against LSU, skip the SEC title game, and still be crowned national champions?"

One of the most accurate kickers missed a chip shot for him. Knew fate was against us then.

He didn’t fricking miss it.

Kick was good.

That’s how I knew it was something other than fate was against us

Even with ISU winning, OSU should have been in the NC game...

earlier that day the OSU women's basketball head coach and an assistant coach were killed in a plane crash plus 2 other people. I remember OSU missing an easy FG by an inch or two that would have won the football game. There were a lot of people who thought OSU would still play LSU for the title despite losing this game

Never wanted to play Alabama twice, that one game changed LSU’s fortunes in wins and recruiting for the worse.

I'll go to my grave thinking he still made that field goal.

OSU. That changed things forever. The rematch got more people on board for playoff and LSU winning that probably doesn't put the mental block against bama.

Les also prob goes down as one of the best ever with a good chance to repeat in 12.

I also think they got hosed. The kick was good.

I was on a cast and blast trip in Rockport. Everyone had gone to bed in order to wake up early. I stayed up watching and at one point was caught up in the excitement of the upset because it was a great game. I admit that I didn't think it would be possible for an Alabama team that didn't play for the conference title to be voted into the national title game.

I was rooting for Iowa State because I thought it would give LSU leeway if they lost to Arkansas or Georgia. It’s all my fault. I apologize.

When the rematch was actually announced, I did not have a good feeling about the game.

At the end of the day that's all that counts.

I didn't really care. I really thought LSU was the more talented team between them and bama and thought our players would really be fired up to beat them again. When our players hit the field, esp the offensive players, I could see they were not fired up. I believe had Miles inserted Lee in the second half those players would have left their soul on that field to beat bama. He was their leader for, what, 8 games, and undefeated. People don't realize how much emotion affects 19 to 22 year olds in a football game. Playing Okie St would have had a nice story line since Miles left them to go to LSU, and had the BCS given points for teams winning their conference, like they should have, I think it would have put Ok St ahead of bama. I still believe if that LSU team and that bama team play 10 times LSU wins 6. Those guys were down going onto the field. Their hearts were not in it at all. And that is 100 percent on Miles.

I was pulling for OSU but I really didn’t care too much. I didn’t think Bama deserved another shot but I honestly thought we would beat them again.

I was an idiot apparently.

When Nick Saban went on a political campaign trying to convince everyone that the NC game should be between the two best teams in football, I knew we were doomed. He was on every station, radio program and public event promoting a crusade to have another shot at LSU.

I’ll never forgot that.......it changed college football. I hope to see a documentary one day about “The Kick” that changed football.
