what about that is hard to imagine?

Oh I don’t know, 30 years of watching owners in every sport agitating for and getting new stadiums/arenas in just about every single circumstance, and the ones who renovated instead did so only when the stadium/arena in question had significant historical value like Lambeau, Fenway, or MSG. It’s easy to see the Superdome falling in with that group.

But tSKC is not the Superdome and it’s already on the older side by NBA arena standards. The lease ends in 2024 and we have no idea what Gayle’s perspective on this is. Of course they could do some renovations and extend the life a bit, but what then? Do you really expect the Pelicans to be playing in this arena in 2040? It’s worth at least asking the question.

if they built a new one tomorrow it would be 20 years old in 2040.
I also might be dead by 2040 and Gayle benson will definitely be.

I think we can table this discussion for a decade

There was a survey that came out several months back where 40% of kids today would rather watch someone play a video game of a sport than watch the actual sport being played. As ridiculous as that sounds I bet that number only gets higher as time goes on and the world changes more. In 2040 the NBA might only exist in eSports form.
