Reciprocating saw should do fine,cypress knee wood is softer than you might suspect.
My neighbor has pond with bunch cypress knees,I used my Stihl brush cutter with metal blade.Whacked them off right at the ground,was much easier than I thought it would be.

yea, i was stunned when i saw my neighbor grinding them down with a tiller.
