Nixon's 1968 Campaign

Trump is going to run as Nixon ’68, positioning the Democrats as the party of “acid, amnesty, and abortion.” It lacks the alliteration of Tricky Dick’s line, but “open borders, socialism, and anarchy” has a beat, and you can dance to it.

The result:
If Trump follows Nixon’s successful path, he’ll figure out a way to make the 2020 race a referendum not on particular policy differences, but on rival ways of viewing the world — and make the choice feel like an existential one.

Why did those Deep South states vote for an Alabama Democrat?

Those Texans back then, man. I don't know.
To be honest, though, I think we still had quite a few Klanocrats back then.

Actually I think the 1972 election parallels with George McGovern make more sense as McGovern was one of the most far left candidates to ever run for President and the 2020 democrat nominee will be the most far left candidate ever in American history.

If you listened on the radio, you thought Nixon won.
If you watched on the TV, you thought JFK won.

This. Nixon didn't want any makeup etc. JFK was used to TV and better prepared. Nixon looked bad on black and white TV and that actually lost enough votes in one of the closest elections ever.
