I hate the “social influencer” world we live in as much as anyone, but it’s not like she was asking for free stuff just because she’s “internet famous.” She was offering to basically market the hotel to her thousands of followers in exchange for accommodations. Seems like it could be a “fair” offer, maybe not, but it was just an offer. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

To me, the guy running the hotel is the bigger attention whore in this situation, looking for social media likes and attention for “owning” someone who simply made a business offer to him.

That was actually my first thought too. I hate "social media influencers" as much as anyone and enjoy seeing them get knocked down a peg...but it's not like they were just asking for free stuff. They were going to market for them, so the answer to all his questions of who would pay the people would be him with the increased revenue/booking rate after being featured.

Now, if the place is already pretty much always sold out then it makes sense, but he could've just said no we don't need any marketing and left it at that

This is absolutely true whether people like to admit it or not. The influencers are essentially ad agencies providing modern versions of advertisement.

Influencers produce a ton of schadenfreude and I admit I have my share. It is pretty easy to cause this effect when there are people out there that can make more money for a single IG post than anyone here makes in a full year of work.
