Mike has been pretty spot-on with many of his predictions in the past, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Abrams takes the time-travel route and acts like The Last Jedi mostly never happened.
It’s an unenviable task. Quite frankly, I don’t see how they can salvage the story of this new trilogy after what Rian Johnson left them to work with. They fricked up the character arcs and plot development so badly in The Last Jedi, I don’t see a path forward for this story. This is what happens when you have different writers working on different parts of a story, instead of a unified vision. It’s astonishing how badly Disney has mismanaged one of their most valuable properties.
