Am I the only one who thinks the English have it right by tying their women’s domestic league to their men’s clubs?

Considering the fact that the USWNT just won their fourth WC while the England women's national team have yet to make a final, I would say yes.

Going to assume you mean from a financial standpoint?

I've always been under the assumption the club as a whole were doing it more for public relation reasons, rather than to actually turn a profit off of tying themselves to a women's club. Most clubs freely give their women's side around a million dollars to play with every year while not expecting the debt to ever be repaid.

Not sure if the MLS has that kind of money to throw around.

Agreed.

There is almost no benefit in staying in the US, imo. The women’s FA Cup Final I believe sold like 30K tickets.

City’s women’s team is also very well supported.

I genuinely couldn’t tell you a single women’s league team here or even the name of the league.

At some point, I think there will be some sort of formal MLS/NWSL partnership. Some MLS owners also own NWSL teams like in Salt Lake.

But not yet. Unlike the NBA, Major League Soccer can’t afford to burn millions of dollars on funding women’s teams. MLS has more important things to handle for now, but I think you’ll see some MLS teams add women’s teams in the near future.

I know Cincinnati, Atlanta, and LAFC have all mentioned the possibility of adding teams in the near future. Cincinnati wants to build their stadium and get their academy off the ground first before starting a women’s team.

I posted this earlier but it really applies to this thread

I think in the next 5-10 years you will see star players sue USSF to drop you have to play in the domestic league requirement to play on the national team

The euro leagues are going to be so much better and better paying

It’s possible. But I’m not convinced women’s soccer will ever really take off in Europe, either. The big European clubs throwing money at it will help for sure, but they don’t have the grassroots structure of women’s soccer (and women’s sports in general) that we have in the USA. American girls can grow up playing soccer with a realistic dream of getting a college scholarship if they’re good enough, and that’s what fuels our massive player pool.

The women’s Champions League games in Europe barely get 1K people in attendance. People just don’t care. Even compared to here.

LOL WATTTT

you have not been paying attention at all

The FA Cup on the regular gets good attendance. 43k this year

Man United in its first year this season avg over 2k people a match.

The clubs in Europe are literally using the same structure for the men. That in the long run will work out much better than girls playing in college while their counterparts are full on pros at the same age. No pay to play structure and the FA actually invest in grassroots levels

There have already been young american girls who have left college to play in Europe

I get his point that in some countries it is literally an afterthought, but yeah....in France, England especially it is much more popular than even here.

Throw Germany in as well

Also in Spain Madrid is starting a ladies team, they dont want Barca getting all the shine

Atletico had 67k show up to a womens match

its coming and USSF is a sleep at the wheel

In England the ladies teams are on tv a good amount while here the league is barely covered

Also promotion and rel at least in England

The Latin and South American womens teams are hot garbage with the exception of Brazil. Why is that?
