Every “ Communist” country has had a hybrid form of Communism/Marxism, to account for the particulars of that culture. We have American ( You are a racistsexisthomophobe! ) Progressivism. It seeks to replace American traditions, principles ideals and Institutions with Marxist constructs.
It has already largely WON our broader culture . We are simply cultural dissenters, a rear guard action. At some point, with the passage of time, in a post- Constitutional society, The State will feel emboldened to take what it wants whether the Donor/Collectivist Class agrees to it or not. This can be done effectively Putin-style- through a system of Oligarchs to replace our Capitalists.

Given the reality of our corporate/state relationships now, I'd say we were one election election (2016) away from this precise reality. Even Trump won't slow the amalgamation of corporate and state power.
