I think it has more to do about globalism than anything else. People think it is about voters etc and that is probably also true but the end goal is globalism and you cannot have that if the US is big on nationalism and borders.
Then that is where the ends justify the means.

if this was true the elites would change the definition of asylum to allow legal entry to these people and not require the ruse/bad faith
