Did the Raptors not just win the finals with a traditional center? I know Gasol is shooting more 3s, but he is not athletic by any means.

Are you being serious right now? Gasol is pretty much the exact opposite type of player that Hayes is. Both centers for Toronto can step out and make 3’s. This take was incredibly dumb.

The Center position is less valued, but is absolutely needed when teams go to the half court offense. You can't play small ball 60 minutes a game.

No one is arguing this. The problem is, you can find guys for cheap to take those minutes. When you have a team of guys who can’t shoot, including the guy who will be your star, you don’t draft a project center who can’t shoot at 8.

Garland made sense now and 4 years from now no matter what direction the team or Zion goes. Same for Hunter who is just a utility knife that you can’t have enough of in this league.

You're right, if you can be positive they will develop into that. History tells us they are far more likely to not turn into what you're expecting.

Cousins was essentially a “traditional” center last year given his total lack of mobility. He was like an Omer Asik who could shoot a little.

Looney also played a lot in the finals and playoffs in general.

Wtf are you talking about dude. Garland can shoot he fits the criteria more than anyone else by far.

what does this even mean? Tons of guys can shoot. Doesn't mean they can play in the NBA.
You're assuming Garland will develop into an all-star, or near all-star, and that's just not something thats likely at all. Not saying he won't, but history tells us he's likely not going to be anywhere near that level. Garland is a big risk, very boom or bust player, with boom being a low percentage.

Gasol played most of his career without a 3pt shot and isn’t particularly athletic.

Point being, just because it’s not part of his game now doesn’t mean Hayes will never develop a shot.

Y'all just aren't getting it..Golden State and Toronto have shooters everywhere and we do not... If we had shooters everywhere this would not be a bad pick

Garland:

1) Not an elite athlete
2) More turnovers than assists
3) Questionable if he'll ever be a plus defender

He has plenty of question marks man.

Relax dude, we can still sign shooters. We’ll be alright.

No one really cares about their athletic 5 center scoring on offense anything outside of rim runs and put backs, if they are playing defense at an elite level. Scoring comes from the guards and wings, everyone knows that. If they can hit an open jump shot, whether from 15' or from 3 point land, that's an added bonus.

This doesn’t make sense. It all comes down to what fits on the team you are building. If you are Houston built around shooters everywhere, then yes, all you need is Clint Capela.

If you are the Bucks, Brook Lopez is a way better fit than someone like Capela would be. The Pels will be more like the Bucks than Houston as far as type of players you need around your star.

And y'all just aren't getting it.
We aren't competing for anything anytime soon. We are creating and developing our team.
The only thing we know for sure about our future, is Zion will be on this team in 5 years. We have no idea if anyone else currently on the team will.
My guess is in 5 years, Ingram/Zion/Hayes are starting for us, and Jrue might still be with us starting.

People dont understand the Defensive potential our team has.

We can literally muddy up games to 90-80pt games which requires less scoring to keep up with the other team.

and how long did it take the Bucks to get there with Giannis? Give it some time. We are building a team for the future, not right now. You all act like Hayes will never be able to hit a jumper. We picked him b/c we expect to be able to get that out of him in the future.
Do you people not see that? the potential to have a Tyson Chandler type defender at the rim, who's better on the perimeter defensively, and can actually hit an open jumper?

Garland is very much a project. He played 5 games in college and has by all accounts a very low basketball IQ.

These people are delusional and still in the honeymoon phase with griffin. My god some posters in here are acting like griffin turned the franchise around himself because we got lucky and got Zion. What a job.

These same people pumping up this horrendous trade, will be in here a few months from now freaking out because we let an all star in garland walk for a project. This team needs shooting in the starting lineup and anyone that we get in free agency will more than likely come off the bench.

I think the main reason for panic, is bc literally no one knows if this is possible...
He hasnt even tried to. SO is that bc he cant? Or bc he didnt have to?

You realize that Solo going out is huge right? On top of getting 2 1sts over just 1 we have a max slot available. We're at less than 18M without it.

Hayes with a 3 point shot Hayes likely never develops. Hayes is going to be living in that shadow for years
living in the shadow of a tweet of a rumor that may or may not have been true?
